<p>At the 2003 TEI Board meeting, Geoffrey Rockwell and Sebastian
Rahtz were asked to develop a new graphical logo for the TEI.
Geoffrey then worked with Andrew Paulin, a Multimedia student at
McMaster University, who developed a series of ideas for logos, which
were ruminated upon by Geoffrey, Sebastian and Julia Flanders. Their
preferred design was then refined further by Rowan Wilson at Oxford
University's Research Technologies Service, resulting in the
recommended design. The design is implemented in scaleable
vector form using Adobe Illustrator, and can be used either in PDF,
SVG, or rasterized JPEG forms. </p>

<p>Versions of the logo are as follows:
<table>
<row><cell><xref
	       url="TEIlogo.pdf">TEIlogo.pdf</xref></cell><cell>PDF, colour</cell></row>
<row><cell><xref
	       url="TEIlogo-black.pdf">TEIlogo-black.pdf</xref></cell><cell>PDF, black and white</cell></row>
<row><cell><xref
	       url="TEIlogo-grayscale.pdf">TEIlogo-grayscale.pdf</xref></cell><cell>PDF, grayscale</cell></row>
<row><cell><xref
	       url="TEI-175.jpg">TEI-175.jpg</xref></cell><cell>small bitmap</cell></row>
<row><cell><xref
	       url="TEI-400.jpg">TEI-400.jpg</xref></cell><cell>larger
bitmap</cell></row>
<row><cell><xref url="TEI-600.jpg">TEI-600.jpg</xref></cell><cell>big bitmap</cell></row>
<row><cell><xref url="TEI-800.jpg">TEI-800.jpg</xref></cell><cell>huge
bitmap</cell></row>
<row><cell><xref url="TEIlogo.svg">TEIlogo.svg</xref></cell><cell>SVG version</cell></row>
</table>
</p>

<p>Usage examples are:
<list type="ordered">
<item><xref url="webpage.html">a webpage</xref> using the new logo top
left</item>
<item><xref url="printedpage.pdf">a PDF file</xref> of a printed
document, using the coloured logo</item>
<item><xref url="printedpage-gray.pdf">a PDF file</xref> of a printed
document using the grayscale version</item>
<item><xref url="simpleslide.ppt">simple PowerPoint</xref> slide using logo</item>
<item><xref url="pictureslide.ppt">PowerPoint</xref> slide using logo
as graphic</item>
</list>
</p>

<p>We also include an alternative design, "hands", for less formal
situations like T-shirts (<xref url="handlogo.jpg">version 1</xref> and
<xref url="handlogo2.jpg">version 2</xref>) The Chair of TEI would like to thank both
Andrew Paulin and Rowan Wilson for their work on these designs.
