Dear TEIer (current or prospective),
The two pictures above tell you something about the “where” of the 2014 TEI conference, hosted by Northwestern University, October 22-24. The image of the Northwestern campus tells you that it is right on the shore of Lake Michigan, from which you can see on most days a view of Chicago’s skyline different from the other image above but no less intriguing. A few minutes’ walk will take you to trains that within half an hour take you to the “Loop,” Chicago’s central district.
While hosted by Northwestern, most of the events will be scheduled in the Orrington Hotel on the edge of the campus.
The conference program is now complete, and I hope that you will find all the information you need on the various pages of this. Tell me if you don’t by emailing [email protected], and I will try to fix things right away.
As you may know, this year’s conference partly overlaps with, is held in the same hotel, and shares some programming with, the Chicago Colloquium on Digital Humanities and Computer Science. In particular, the poster sessions are intermingled, and there is a joint plenary session on Thursday afternoon. The DHCS visitors will be our guests on Thursday, and I hope you will find some of its papers interesting. The future of the EEBO-TCP archive is a shared theme of the two events.
There will be coffee breaks, and there will be receptions after the two keynote events. You’ll be on your own for lunch and dinner. Evanston prides itself on being the Restaurant Capital of the Northshore. All kinds of food and drink are found within easy walking distance of the hotel. The food and ambience in most cases will be better than what you get at formal lunches or dinners.
