- Determination of range of applications to be enabled by proposed TEI-PB guidelines
- Review relevant activities of MS-desc workgroup

Discuss harmonization of recommendations for printed book and manuscript description with the MS-desc workgroup.
By August 1
Review existing guidelines for both book level (i.e,

) and at page
level/

for bibliographical description in the
areas listed under Objective 3 in the Workgroup Charge:
- Encoding basic structural information about each page
- Encoding a summary of structural information about the document as a whole
- Commentary on the physical document structure
- Stand-off markup (e.g. <join> ) to enable multiple analytical perspectives and commentary
Determine limitations of existing encoding guidelines to achieve goals
By September 15
Propose both specific guidelines for usage of existing guidelines and new extensions to TEI.
Provide preliminary guidelines to MS-desc workgroup for review and commentary.
By October 15
Incorporate responses from MS-desc workgroup.
Supply markup examples for defined applications using proposed encoding
By November 15
Draft guidelines including examples submitted to TEI-Council
