Commenced ~15:12 UTC with DD, JH, SB, NI, CC, JC, FV.
FV requests phone numbers in e-mail.
Discussion of work plan:
- DD for segmentation & alignment — behind, plans to have draft out on list early next.
- CC says he is still unable to commit to a date, but it is at the ‘top of my pile’.
- [?...?]
- FV has a ‘way incomplete’ draft.
- JH on canonical references. Also now at ‘top of my pile’.
- Both JH & FV have posted their tool pointers. FV does not expect any progress for a week or two, when a new grad student will start.
FV has been thinking of effect of using an element rather than an attribute to point. SOM is not only meant as working in substitution to existing markup, but could also be used as an addition to existing markup. Depending on the kind of XPointer you specify either data content only or both data content and markup.
FV thinks that using an element (as opposed to attribute) is more likely to lead to confusion of humans reading the document.
CC says (of FV's mail) that it implies that the SOM sucks in markup as well as content.
SB thinks there are very few such elements.
FV: what would be objection of allowing both attribute and element and suggesting neither?
2 issues: impression on reader or encoder on whether element content is or is not included; case of needing to insert a ‘non-natural’ element, e.g., when you want content of annotation to be two distinct [?...?].
FV requests move call to 14:00 UTC; no objections. [Note: Since not everyone was on the call, I think we need to address this on the list before confirming change.]
DD, JH will be in Oxford next week.
