An international research project dedicated to the publication of medieval stained glass. Founded in 1949, the CVMA has committees in fourteen countries and over sixty-five volumes have been published so far. The project aims to publish all medieval stained glass in Great Britain (to 1540), in volumes that focus either upon a county, or upon single monuments with outstanding collections of glass. Two further thematic volumes are devoted to national surveys of roundels, a popular form in the later mediaeval period.
The first phase of the CVMA digitisation project led to the creation of a digital Picture Archive, containing nearly 18,000 images, most of them in colour. The current phase of the project aims to create a publishing framework for the digital versions of future print publications.
