URI-based pointing in TEI P5
(James Cummings)
URI-based pointing is a central and pivotal change in TEI P5 often-overlooked in discussions of what is new in P5. However, it is one of the most important changes to all the myriad of point-related attributes is that they can now point to any URI. There are three TEI datatypes (data.code, data.namespace and data.pointer) which resolve to xsd:anyURI for 127 different attributes on various classes and individual elements. While external pointing was possible in P4, that the basic pointing method in P5 is URI-based leads to wonderful exciting possibilities of pointing to all sorts of things for greater interoperability between resources.
