What's in a Name? How Semantic Markup Transforms the Classroom
Dr Diane Jakacki, Bucknell University

Diane Jakacki is Digital Scholarship Coordinator and Affiliated Faculty in Comparative Humanities at Bucknell University. She is an assistant director of DHSI, Program Chair for the DH 2017 conference, Technical Editor for the Internet Shakespeare Editions, and is lead investigator of REED London and a member of the Executive Board of the Records of Early English Drama. Her research specialties include spatial analysis through text, early modern drama, and the ways in which pedagogy can be transformed by means of digital interventions.

She has published widely on digital humanities pedagogy as well as on the intersection of DH and early modern studies, most recently as co-editor, with Laura Estill and Michael Ullyot of Early Modern Studies After the Digital Turn (2016), co-author (with Janelle Jenstad in the same volume of "Mapping Toponyms in Early Modern Plays with the Map of Early Modern London and Internet Shakespeare Editions Projects", co-author (with Katie Faull) of "Doing DH in the Classroom: Transforming the Humanities Curriculum through Digital Engagement” in Doing Digital Humanities (2017), and author of “Internet Shakespeare Editions and the Infinite (Editorial) Others: Supporting Critical Tagsets for Linked Editions” in Shakespeare’s Language in Digital Media: Old Words, New Tools (forthcoming).

Humanidades Digitales: Life on the Other Side
Gimena del Rio Riande (CONICET, Argentina)

Researcher at the Seminario de Edicion y Crítica Textual (SECRIT-IIBICRIT) of the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET. Buenos Aires, Argentina) and External Professor at LINHD-UNED (Madrid) and the University of Buenos Aires. MA and PhD in Romance Philology (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) with a critical edition of King Dinis of Portugal’s Songbook (Texto y contxto: El Cancionero del rey Don Denis de Portugal: estudio filológico, edición crítica y anotación. Summa cum Laude), her main academic interests deal with Digital Scholarly Edition, the use, and methodologies of scholarly digital tools as “situated practices”, and the interaction of the global and the local in the development of academic disciplines.

She has been working since 2013 in creating and working with different DH communities of practice in Latin America and Spain, especially in Argentina, where she organized the first Digital Humanities Conference in 2014. She is, among others, the vice-president of the Asociación Argentina de Humanidades Digitales (AAHD) and part of the Board of Directors of FORCE11. She coordinates the research activities of Humanidades Digitales CAICYT (Argentina) and LINHD-UNED and directs many Digital Humanities projects and initiatives.
